Raman scattering in VO2
Physica B 316-317, p. 600 (2002)
Abstract
VO2 shows a metal insulator transition at 339 K. Despite
intense experimental and theoretical investigations the nature of this
transition is not clear until now. Proposed mechanisms for the phase transition
are for example a Mott-Hubbard transition or a Peierls transition. To understand
the structural part of the phase transition it is necessary to investigate
the vibrational excitations. Although there have been a number of experimental
investigations of the lattice vibrations of VO2 they resulted
in sometimes conflicting or unclear results. Therefore, we studied the
lattice vibrations of VO2 in the semiconducting and metallic
phase with Raman spectroscopy again to gain more insight in the nature
of the lattice vibrations.
